A rug read as a tapestry laid flat: a fortress rises from the center of the field, and everything around it is arranged to hold it there.

Design Story

The composition is strictly centered. A stone keep with twin towers and banners occupies the upper field, its arched gateway sitting almost exactly on the vertical axis. Below it, a crowned shield bearing a fleur-de-lis anchors the lower half, flanked by two rampant lions turned outward \Uffffffff mirrored forms that create balance rather than motion. Helmets, crossed swords and quartered shields sit at the corners, functioning as visual stops. The border is dense with gold foliate scrollwork against deep oxblood and near-black, which compresses the eye inward. Colour does the hierarchy work: aged gold reads first, burgundy second, the darkened stonework last, giving the scene atmosphere rather than illustration.

Room & Styling

On a rug, this becomes a floor composition with a clear center and a firm edge. The heavy border defines the perimeter, so furniture placed at the margins frames the field instead of interrupting it. Viewed from standing height, the castle and crest resolve as a single medallion; up close, the corner motifs reward attention. It anchors a room the way a rug should \Uffffffff quietly, from below.
