Around it, a deep crimson and gold border does the heavy lifting - acanthus scrollwork, fleur-de-lis, crowned shields with lions rampant, crossed swords and visored helms marking the corners. The contrast is the trick here. Cool, near-black blues in the center push back against warm antique golds and oxblood reds at the edges, so the eye travels outward, hits the ornament, and returns to the keep. Nothing competes. Everything frames.

As a rug, the scale works in its favour. The centered motif reads clearly from standing height, while the border ornament rewards a closer look from a seat.
